Day Three - Mosi-O-Tunya Safari Park

In Mosi-O-Tunya park we drove our vehicle through and saw animals roaming freely. These elephants had come to the water hole to roll in the mud and to drink. One of them thought we were too close, though, as she started flapping her ears, trumpeting and moving closer to us. In the picture above, the kids stand by a termite mound.

This giraffe had a good time watching us as we watched him.

These are the only two rhinos in Zambia. They are guarded 24/7 by men with big guns. Apparently rhinos are hunted for their horns. An employee of the park walked us to where these rhinos were trying to take a nap, which is why we were able to get so close.

The boys ate lunch on top of the cruiser. It was an adrenaline-filled day full of wonder at the animals we saw. This ain't no zoo!

Day two - Victoria Falls

The really loud noise that sounded like a human screaming was - baboons! They were all over the property, coming and going as they pleased.

Next we saw Victoria Falls. If you listen closely, you could probably hear it far away. Zambians call the falls Mosi-O-Tunya, which means "the smoke that thunders". This has to do with the mist that rises and can be seen from miles away.

The falls come down into the gorge and the mist that rises makes it feel like it is raining from below. We got soaked! Here is a picture of Evan pretending to jump in at the top of the falls.

What a magnificent experience! Tune in to the next blog to see what we did on day 3.

Day One - Livingstone

We invite you to experience the Powell family vacation with us! The first day we drove for 6 hours to Livingstone. First we got settled in our tent. This was a huge, really nice tent with beds and electricity. Next, the kids explored the grounds and found something you wouldn't see in America - a beware of Hippos sign. Really, hippos come up on the banks of the river which borders the property.

The kids spent time playing on the trampoline
and playground:

Then it was lights out. Early the next morning we woke to a very loud noise just outside our tent. Tune in to the next blog to see what it
was. . .
