We're too crabby!

Look at what we found in our backyard. Can someone explain how we could have crabs in Africa when we are nowhere near the coast?

LICS

We found out about LICS (Lusaka International Community School) not long after we arrived and were excited to hear that they allow homeschooled children to take classes. Evan is taking a swim class and Marshall is involved in computer club. Evan's teacher is even recruiting him for the swim team! Although Nathan is not old enough, the Bible Club teacher asked him to be a part. Julia is content to play on the playground while the boys are in their classes.

Making Juice

Andrea Hilty (a recent new missionary along with husband Tim) babysat the kids while John and I were able to watch the SuperBowl with some expats. When we came home, we found that the kids had been hard at work with a project. We had some yummy guava juice that night.

Alpha Destination School

Noel and the kids have been going once a week to a school in a poor compound to read books and Bible stories to the Zambian children in grades preschool, one and two. The school is a two room cinderblock building and other than a few posters on the walls and some benches, the teachers have nothing. They have no books or curriculum or chalk boards. . .nothing but a passion for education and a vision to provide an education for the poorest children in Lusaka.

Here are some pictures:

Mail

Several of our friends have asked how to send us mail. We would love to get Christmas cards, pictures of your family - things of that sort!

If you do want to send something, here are some things we can not get here:

packs of taco seasoning
packs of powdered cheese for mac & cheese
packs of ranch dressing

entertainment things (check first to see if we have them) like chapter books for the kids, kids videos, etc.
fun toys like Lego Knights (they cost $30 here!) or Hello Kitty
a good sermon on tape from your church

Please send this kind of thing in a padded envelope rather than a box. We hear boxes go to a facility where the boxes are thrown into a big cage and sorted when someone gets around to it. Seriously, it took 6 months for someone to get a box sent to them instead of the more usual 2-3 weeks.

Thanks to all of our friends who want to keep in touch!
