40 flies
It's finally the rainy season. That's good because with the rains come crops, which means people will have food to eat next year. Along with the rain comes flies. John went on a rampage yesterday killing flies in the kitchen. Guess how many flies he killed. . .over 40! I would have guessed there were 10 or maybe 15 flies sharing that kitchen with me. But not 40.
It occurs to me that my sins are a bit like the flies in my kitchen. At first I am repulsed by them. Then I get used to a few and they share space with me. Then little by little there are more and more that inhabit my life. Looks like I need to get out the fly swatter or the bug spray. . .

Medical Training

Susan Hundshamer, our ACTION nurse, recently did some medical training for our ministry. We learned basic things like helping someone who is choking, hyperventilating or having a seizure as well as CPR. We personally have had to deal with two of these issues with Zambian friends, so the training was very helpful.

You Go, Girlfriend!

This is Julia's friend Catherine Bloemker. She was adopted from a Zambian orphanage by an American family and now the Bloemkers visit Zambia twice a year. They stayed with us for a bit over 4 weeks as they are continuing to build an adoption agency called Love Taking Action. Catherine and Julia became fast friends.

Giving Thanks

Here are some pictures from our team Thanksgiving celebration. We ate lots of traditional food like cranberries, turkey and dressing, watched college football on DVD, and even had a talent show. Some of us are talented and some are not. Evan, Marshall and Daniel Stein performed "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" and John and Evan did a fun skit called "Shorty". We all expressed gratitude to God for our friends, who are now like family, and for being here in Zambia.
